Metec carried out the full M&E Design on the new centralised GSK Laboratory facility in Irish Development Authority (IDA) Business & Technology Park, Carrigtwohill, Cork. The development consisted of a new single storey API analytical testing laboratory on a greenfield site. The facility includes a main laboratory area with support rooms, an open office/write up area, storage room, entrance, staff canteen and ground floor plantroom. The design intent was to determine the most cost effective and robust solutions bearing in mind the cost, best energy efficiency, sustainability, maintainability, and reliability.
This was a project that entered briefing stage during March 2020, the first of Ireland’s many lockdowns.
Metec suggested that MS Teams were utilised for the duration of the project and that regular BIM reviews took place to ensure the design process was seamless whilst collaborating as a team.
ATEX Assessment and Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) Report carried out by a 3rd party specialist to reduce risk of explosions/ignitions. The latest high-end equipment installed within the lab, with some items of equipment costing over €1million. Intricate M&E interface requirements (ventilation, water, waste, lab gas, power, data, UPS, etc.) required for all appliances. BER Target = B2 (BER Survey / Certificate by others) BIM LOD – LOD 200, but actually modelled closer to LOD350-400.
