The Egremont Residential development (47 Units) has recently been completed on behalf of Durkan Residential, constructed to Passivhaus Standard and an A2 Energy Rating. Metec undertook the most challenging roles in this medium-density development – Building Lifecycle Assessment, Energy/Part L compliance, Site Lighting (Bat-sensitive) and Mechanical & Electrical Design.
Achieving the Client’s requirement for compliance with Passivhaus Standard, and A2 Energy Rating was an incredible challenge for Metec and the Architect. We worked closely with the Architect and Passivhaus Consultant, suggesting changes to layouts, depths of rooms and servicing strategies where required to achieve this hallenging target.
The certification to Passivhaus Standard and A2 Energy Rating Standard point to the success of Metec’s fabric-first approach throughout this challenging project. Metec have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Durkan Residential, and continue to provide expert advice and design to our valued client.
Metec pushed the Fabric-first approach from the outset, with strong emphasis placed on Insulation Levels, elimination of Thermal Bridges, Airtightness, Triple-Glazing and Passivhaus-certified Heat Recovery Mechanical Ventilation to each unit. The Mechanical & Electrical strategy included Nilan’s Passivhaus-certified Compact P Hot Water and Heat Recovery Ventilation Unit.
