This project consisted of a 20,000 sq. ft. sound stage & 2,000 sq. ft. support space c/w 72 undercroft carpark spaces. The constraints of the site combined with the scope of the brief presented one of the biggest challenges for the design team. To fit a 5 storey of support space, a 20,000 sq. ft. sound stage and 72 car parking spaces on what was a small footprint surrounded by existing buildings required significant coordination with the client & various specialist consultants at design stage.
The project was designed using BIM Level 2 LOIN 3 and had to take cognisance of the varying client requirements. The building services installation & life safety systems had to account for the transient & flexible use of the sound stage where differing movie sets are constructed.
The acoustic performance requirements of the sound stage dictated the selection of plant/equipment in addition to the primary service runs. The building envelope as a consequence of the sound proofing achieved a better U-value that required compliance with building regulations
The design included renewable energy sources including PV panels, air source heat pumps and LED lighting were employed to achieve a sub-3 air permability rating.
