Martin Kavanagh

Associate Director, Senior Electrical Engineer

I began my career serving and completing my apprenticeship as a qualified electrician with Jones Engineering. In 2011, I returned to college on a part-time basis to study Electrical Services Engineering. I joined Metec in 2012 and continued to study at night for my Degree in Electrical Services Engineering, which I received in 2016.

In my time at Metec, I have gained extensive experience working on some brilliant design teams, benefitting from the culture of innovation, collaboration and fun here that has resulted in rewarding projects like One South County, Indeed Capital Dock, Padel Club at Adare Manor, and Jameson Distillery Smithfield.

Who am I?

Married to Jana, we have 2 boys and live in Greystones, not far from my home village of Roundwood in the Wicklow mountains. I am a huge sports fan and will watch pretty much anything sports-related on TV – from GAA and rugby to Aussie Rules, Formula 1 and athletics. My mum was a proud Cork woman, so I have always kept a close eye on all things Cork-related in GAA as well as Munster Rugby! My GAA and soccer playing days are over, but I enjoy early morning runs and cycles which not only keep my fitness levels up but also clear my head for the day. I’ve represented Leinster in cross-country and track & field events, and even managed to run the marathon in under three hours on my first attempt.

I have been lucky enough to have spent quite a bit of time travelling with my wife in Australia, South East Asia, and South America where we visited Machu Picchu and Iguazu Falls. We also spent three months travelling through Africa, visiting the Serengeti, Masai Mara and the mountain gorillas in Rwanda(!)
