Who am I?

Outside of work, I dedicate the majority of my time to my passion for rowing. Whether I am actively participating in the sport, coaching new crews, or maintaining our wooden skiff, rowing is a significant part of my life. I also take pride in the craftsmanship of oar making, ensuring that every piece is tailored to enhance performance on the water. In addition to rowing, I enjoy the hands-on aspects of the sport, particularly the maintenance and care of our wooden skiff. This involves meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the boat is always in top condition. Crafting oars is another aspect I am deeply involved in, as it allows me to blend functionality with art, providing rowers with beautiful and high-performing equipment. My dedication to rowing often takes me to events outside of Ireland. I travel extensively to attend major rowing events such as the Great River Race in London, Monster of the Loch, Castle to Crane, and to try out different types of rowing such as the type in Malta. These experiences not only enrich my understanding of the sport but also fuel my enthusiasm for both the technical and artistic aspects of rowing. Whether I'm on the water or travelling to rowing events, my commitment to the sport is unwavering.

Favourite Quote

“Rowing a race is an art, not a frantic scramble. It must be rowed with head power as well as hand power. From the first stroke all thoughts of the other crew must be blocked out. Your thoughts must be directed to you and your own boat, always positive, never negative.”
