Bernard Denver

Managing Director, Chartered Engineer
MSc, BSc (Hons) Eng, Dip. Eng, C.Eng. MIEI, FConsEI

Hi, my name is Bernard Denver. I am the managing director of Metec Consulting Engineers and a chartered engineer.

I got my Degree in Building Services Engineering from DIT (now TUD) in 1996 and Masters in Science in 2000.

I started my career as an Mechanical Services Engineer with Arup in their Cork office in 1996. I started working with MacArdle McSweeny Associates in 1997 and worked there as a director for 4 years until 2005. I was also a director with Axiseng for 4 years.

I have been a director in Metec since 2009 and have overseen the growth of the company from 2 engineers to nearly 60 engineers at present.

I have always had a passion for sustainability and energy and indeed reducing the impact on the local, internal and external environment from buildings and their service. I strongly believe that MEP engineers and companies need to advise clients and design teams in all aspects of engineering services and energy – hence our office is and will always be open plan where we can work, collaborate and share knowledge, ideas, experience and expertise in a productive, creative and innovative environment.

I really enjoy working with clients, design and construction teams. I find the best projects are those where everyone works together with a common goal but whilst having periods for fun, getting to know each team member and delivering collectively !

I am very proud of our company, very proud of the team we have created and skill sets within the business and believe we offer clients and construction partners experience and expertise across all sectors – again always with energy and sustainability to the core of decisions and engineering solutions.

I love the amount of repeat business we get from clients and design teams – it proves we as a team provide a professional and comprehensive service. It proves we are trusted and can and do deliver.

I get a thrill and buzz when we win new projects and new clients and explore new sectors. My email and contact details are below. I look forward to Metec continuing to grow and develop as a successful business into the future.

Who am I?

I am married to Karen and we have 2 boys and 2 girls. We live in my hometown of Bray, Co. Wicklow – the Garden of Ireland.

I am an avid sports fan - especially rugby - Ireland and Leinster. I  have been a fan of Manchester United since 1983! I enjoy most sports including GAA (Wicklow and Mayo), Hurling, American Football (Denver Broncos – but a big Tom Brady fan) and armchair/barstool golf!

As my football and rugby playing days are over, I enjoys working out in the gym (Powerlifting) – great for thinking of nothing else but counting reps and getting my mind of business and other life pressures.

My favourite movies are The Godfather 1 & 2, Shawshank Redemption, My Cousin Vinny, Saving Private Ryan, Star Wars and Star Trek movies, Marvel movies, Batman (with Christian Bale) and the newer Superman movies.

I have a wide and broad interest in music, everything from classical, to current chart, to pop, to dance, to rock, to heavy metal. If all music in the world were taken away and I could keep 3 tracks they would be:

  • Fools Gold by Stone Roses
  • Intermezzo Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni
  • One by U2

I believe it is important to give back to the community if you can and I have been lucky to coach my children in football and GAA for 7 years. Volunteering is important I believe and I was an active member of a tidy towns committee  for 6 years. I love that Metec have sponsored local teams and charities including Bray Emmets, Ashford Rovers, Wicklow Rovers to name a few.

I love cooking, chopping veg and coming up with new recipes and ideas, it is so different to the day job and I find it relaxing. If I had to cook for celebrity dinner date, I would love to have Roy Keane, Angela Merkel, James O’Brien (LBC), Taylor Swift, Barack Obama, Tom Brady and Dara Ó Briain. I am happy to elaborate on the reasons for each one !

Favourite Quote

"No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

- Nelson Mandela
