I have over 15 years’ experience in the building services industry in Ireland, the UK and Europe, working for both contracting and consulting organisations. After leaving school to undertake an apprenticeship programme in building services engineering, I spent 7 years working for a mechanical contractor in the UK. With my ambition being to work on projects from an early design stage, I emigrated to Ireland in 2014 to pursue a career in a design consultancy practice. At Metec, I have developed extensive experience in implementing energy-efficient and sustainable design. I am passionate about building services engineering and how each project can be more sustainable and efficient than the one before.
Standout clients and projects for me at Metec have included Primark, Two South County, Styne House Energy Upgrade, and Modular Build Laboratory (Swords) - a very challenging yet rewarding project that was LEED Gold rated.
To further develop my knowledge, I completed an Honours Degree in Energy & Building Services Engineering at Ulster University in 2018, and recently earned a Master’s in Building Services Engineering Management from Brunel University, London. I achieved the highest grade possible in both courses and won the ‘Best Part-Time Student of the Year’ award at Ulster University.
I regularly travel to central Europe to work on new projects in countries including Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Romania, and France. I find working in different countries challenging but extremely rewarding at the same time. Collaborating and networking with fellow professionals has been vital to my career growth. I enjoy mentoring other engineers and passing on my knowledge. The sense of fulfilment in seeing another engineer’s career flourish under your guidance is second to none.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my wife and miniature dachshund, Mabel. I enjoy getting out in the Wicklow mountains for long walks, exploring the island of Ireland, playing darts, watching horse racing (especially national hunt). I’m also an avid Sunderland AFC supporter (ex. season ticket holder!).
