UCD Management House

Metec completed the mechanical and electrical refurbishment of the existing UCD Management House Building. The works began in January 2017 and were completed in August 2017 in a live environment.

Metec's Role

Metec were the M&E consultants for the project. Detailed MEP design of Mechanical, Electrical and public health engineering including 3D modelling in areas of congestion in Revit, from stage D through to construction including production of working for –Construction drawings within the existing Protected Building Structure.

Our design philosophy on the UCD project was to utilize as many proven sustainable design options and energy efficient systems that are technically, environmentally and economically feasible for the upgrade of Management House in order to demonstrate compliance with Part L, and to provide an environmentally friendly, safe and stimulating space.

Metec Consulting Engineers reviewed all equipment technical submittals received from the M&E Contractors to ensure compliance from a performance on-going maintenance & running cost perspective.

In advance of project completion Metec Consulting Engineers witnessed the operation of all Building Services Sub-Systems including associated controls and also completed a full review of the Contractors Safety File, Maintenance Proposals & As-Installed Drawing packages before demonstration to the Client End User/ UCD Buildings Office.

Project Description

Redevelopment of two protected structures linked by contemporary glazed atrium space. Space to provide flexible seminar rooms, collaborative break-out spaces, cafe / dining areas, and offices. The development also included training facilities combined to provide contemporary, interactive spaces, integrated with modern technology and audio-visual provisions. The Electrical & Mechanical engineering services of the refurbishment of this existing building included the strip-out of all existing services to be replaced with new services throughout. This was comprised of a centrally located gas fired boiler system to cater for the entire building, air conditioning system to consultation rooms, mechanical ventilation, specialist gas installations, water services, electrical distribution, data & communications install, LED lighting, admissible emergency lighting, general power, fire alarm systems etc.

Metec Consulting Engineers also on behalf of the Client met with the occupants to review the Buildings Services provision & ensure that the installation met with their requirements in advance of occupation. Metec Consulting Engineers compiled a comprehensive snag list of the Building Services Installation complete with photographic evidence. Metec also carried out an assessment of the final Mechanical, Electrical & Lift Safety file to ensure that the relevant as-installed drawings, systems warranties, maintenance procedures & certification were included. In conjunction with the other Design Team Members & Client representatives the project cost control was managed from pre-tender stage to completion where all change orders were logged, agreed & scheduled in advance of execution.
